An overview of 19th-century Italian art from the “historical painting” of Francesco Hayez to the Macchiaioli group, analysing an artistic period which was deeply affected by the special atmosphere of civic and political commitment. The art critic and historian Lucia Mannini introduces us to its protagonists, pointing out the connections with and differences from the European reality of the time.

A course for anyone wanting to know more about 19th-century art and music, a simple, synthetic tool for improving your knowledge, for polishing up on the main events of the 19th  century, for preparing a conceptual map for future in-depth study. Every week (Mon and Wed, from 21:00 to 23:00), recognized experts introduce the public to the protagonists and masterpieces of 19th-century art and music and uncover the roots of contemporary culture.
