Iron and galvanized sheet metal, plexiglass reflective panels, plexiglass reflector panels, neon lights, foam rubber, nylon, 120 × 216 × 216 cm.

In Multi Bed #1, two single beds are joined at the center to form a cross. Their imagined configuration suggests a hierarchy within a couple, forcing one person to sleep beneath the other.

Vito Acconci – American artist, poet, and architect – explores power dynamics embedded in everyday objects, questioning the systems that shape private life and relationships.

In 1992, Centro Pecci held a major exhibition dedicated to the artist, after which Multi Bed #1 was acquired, in co-ownership with the Comune di Prato.
