Founded in the 1980s at the behest of Enrico Pecci and donated to the city of Prato in memory of his son Luigi, the Pecci Center came into being in the form of a cultural association thanks to the contribution of various members, including the City of Prato, the Prato Industrial Union and the Cassa di Risparmio di Prato, along with numerous private firms and individual citizens.
Created in response to a widespread interest in contemporary art collecting in the area, in more than 35 years of activity, the Pecci Center has built and enriched a permanent collection that provides lasting evidence of its exhibition and cultural history.
