Hyperion
Concept, scenic space Muta Imago/Directed by Claudia Sorace/Musical Drama Riccardo Fazi/Performer Jonathan Schatz
Hyperion by Bruno Maderna, one of the most powerful and enigmatic pieces of Italian musical theater from the second half of the 20th century, returns to the stage thanks to the production of the contemporary theater company Muta Imago, which has accepted the challenge of this musical masterpiece.
The Hyperion of the Muta Imago is an enchanting journey from which it is difficult to turn back. The sense of the work is the infinite question which it poses to yesterday and today’s public: what is mankind’s actual place in the world? Friedrich Hölderlin asked himself this question in the 1797 novel Hyperion on which this show is based. Bruno Maderna asked himself the same question, tirelessly working on this work throughout the 1960s. Finally, the same question is asked by Muta Imago, a theatrical group which, as its name implies, renders the word almost superfluous through the power of the image. Flute, voice and dance are combined in a total show, in which a young man isolates himself from the world to seek a higher truth in the relationship with nature.
