Günther Förg

biography

Füssen, Germany, 1952-2013 Switzerland

German painter, sculptor and photographer. He studied at Fine Arts School in Munich from 1973 to 1979. He met an international success very early, exhibiting his works to the world at the age of 22. Gunther Forg worked with painting and photography, a reflection on modernity. His architectural photographs from the time of Bauhaus face the test of time. His abstract paintings frequently feature signs of the great American abstract painters of the 1950-60s. The first single exhibition took place at the gallery Rüdiger Schöttle in Munich in 1980. In 1992 his work could be seen at the documenta IX, followed by an exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in 1995.  Select solo exhibitions include Greene Naftali Gallery, New York (2015); Deichtorhallen, Hamburg (2015); Museum Brandhorst, Munich (2014); Sammlung Grässlin, Sankt Georgen (2012); Fondation Beyeler, Basel (2009).
