Claudia is a young woman who, due to her overly concerned and intrusive mother, has lost confidence in herself. She trusts only Lodovico, who invites her to take a survival course. To do so, she rents a room in a house on the edge of the woods where the test will be held. The owner proves both kind and "strange," inviting her to experience metaphony, or communication with the deceased.
"The film's aesthetic draws on illustrious influences: the chromatic symbolism and dreamlike atmospheres of Dario Argento's Suspiria and Inferno, the representation of mental landscapes a la Giulietta degli spiriti by Federico Fellini, the psychological introspection of works such as Mario Bava's Schock and Fabrizio Laurenti's Voci Notturne. However, Montecchi manages to blend these inspirations into a work that retains a strong personal identity. The directorial choices in building the uneasiness are particularly successful: each element contributes to a sense of growing unease, which captivates the viewer until the end".
