Bailey is 12 years old and lives in a squat in north Kent with her young father, Bug, a reckless young man surrounded by his friends with no prospects, her brother Hunter, and Kaleygh, her father's new flame. She is a sensitive and rebellious girl, who spends her time with the local youths or, more often, alone; her life changes when she meets Bird, a mysterious drifter searching for his parents, with whom she strikes up a deep friendship.
"Andrea Arnold's cinema searches for its fathers (Truffaut again, but also Ken Loach), exploding from the moment Bug rides his scooter with his sons Bailey and Hunter to help the older one reach his girlfriend in Scotland, and a beautiful finale that becomes a dance that begins the moment Bug belts out The Verve's "Lucky Man" on his wedding day. This time, the flight is very high, that of a mutant cinema that remains faithful to social urgency but opens up 360° to show that perhaps, yes, among the shit of everyday life, there can be a place for everyone. It's a cinema that, behind its naturalist style, with its jittery camera, is all anger, instinct, passion. Wild and full of grace". (Simone Emiliani)
