"For David Lynch, Blue Velvet is the turning point, the film that irreversibly changes his career and transforms the nightmarish insights of Eraserhead into a fully realized form, cloaked in a calming and seductive veneer. After the acclaim of The Elephant Man and the perplexity that arose from the flop of Dune, Lynch learns lesson number one: his art, the intuition he is capable of transposing from the dreamlike to the creative state, is irreducible to the compromises of a three-act screenplay or the demands of a producer." (Emanuele Sacchi)
