La Grazia by Paolo Sorrentino
La Grazia by Paolo Sorrentino

Mariano De Santis, the President of the Republic, is at the end of his term; he has entered his six-month truce. Widowed for eight years by his wife Aurora, whom he still misses dearly, a Catholic and the author of a criminal law manual described as the K3 Himalayas, he has two children: Dorotea, a jurist like him, is always by his side and supervises his meals to ensure a healthy diet; Riccardo, a musician (though not classical as he had hoped), lives in Montreal. In these final months of his term, he also discovers his nickname, "Cemento armato" (Reinforced Concrete).

Toni Servillo wins the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the 2025 Venice Film Festival

"La grazia" intersects with Sorrentino's typical pauses, but in reality there's never a moment's respite. The form, which always marks the identity of his work, accompanies the authentic pleasure of the story. For this reason, in addition to being supported by a towering Toni Servillo, it's a private drama, an absurdist comedy, a sentimental film with the character of the cuirassier who could almost be taken from an Old Hollywood American comedy. An ode to the human condition. Cheerful and sad. Comic and melancholic. A film touched by grace." (Simone Emiliani)
