During a weekend in the countryside, Laura, a student in Berlin, miraculously survives a car accident. Physically unharmed but deeply shaken, she is taken in by Betty, who witnessed the accident and lovingly cares for her. Little by little, Betty's husband and son overcome their mistrust, and an almost familial serenity settles in. But soon they can no longer ignore their past, and Laura must face her own life.
