Young pianist Orpheus plays every night at a club, the Polypus, where he happens to catch the eye of Eura Storm in the audience and is captivated by her. The infatuation seems mutual, but she disappears, leaving Orpheus in despair. He sees her only briefly again, crossing the threshold of a building not far from his home. In his attempt to pursue her, he discovers that the door leads to a mysterious world, guarded by the Green Man and populated by imaginary creatures such as the Jacket, the guardian devil of the afterlife. Orpheus leaps among them, determined to reunite with his Eura.
Director Virgilio Villoresi will present the film before the screening
"Through the blending of different formats and languages, such as the aforementioned stop-motion animation or the use of found footage materials employed at certain moments in the film, Virgilio Villoresi manages to confer – with Orfeo – the appropriate form to represent the main fantasies, obsessions, and perversions of the human soul, overlooking the predictability of the myth from which the subject is drawn with a pro-filmic staging that represents almost unique in Italian genre production."
