Cinematographer Mark Lewis murders young women with a bayonet mounted on his camera. The ritual requires his victims to see themselves in a mirror as they die. The reasons for his perversion can be traced back to his childhood, which was shattered by his father's sadistic habits...

Michael Powell's 1960 masterpiece, which was criticized by the British press when it was released and which triggered the director's decade-long oblivion, is returning for its 65th birthday in a restored version. It was only in the early 1970s, in fact, and with the adoration of the new generation of American directors of the time (Martin Scorsese above all, but also Coppola), that the film was rediscovered and reevaluated, along with the overall work of Michael Powell and his friend and collaborator Emeric Pressburger, with whom he had created some of the greatest British films of the 1940s and 1950s.

"Michael Powell's masterpiece, a dizzying glimpse into cinema's power to kill life" (Roberto Manassero)
