Director Barbet Schroeder paints a portrait of his friend Ricardo Cavallo, an Argentine painter who has lived in France for decades, in a small village in Finistère, Brittany. From their encounters in the painter's home, through their conversations in a kitchen or studio, amid paintings and art books, or outdoors, in the courtyard where Cavallo sets up his large-scale compositions, or by the sea, where the painter paints in a cave, conversations about art, inspiration, the relationship with nature, and the pleasure of teaching children arise. A simple film about a humble and open man, willing to share the beauty of his work with everyone.
"The lesson of Barbet Schroeder and Ricardo Cavallo is to recover simplicity to reach the essence of creation. Their film is an invitation to be faithful to oneself as the artist's sole duty. And there's not much else to say about it: you just have to see and listen, and it's beautiful that way." (Roberto Manassero)
