Friday, January 16, from 7:00 pm to 12:00 am, the Center for Contemporary Art Luigi Pecci presents the first 2026 event of Centro Pecci Night, the special late opening during which all current exhibitions can be visited until midnight, enriched by e se ci entrassi dentro? [and what if I stepped inside?], a program of talks, performances, and experimental music realized in collaboration with Kinkaleri, NUB Project Space, and OOH-sounds. This first Night of the year also features the participation of another Tuscan independent organization, Lo Schermo dell’Arte / VISIO Production Fund, to present the film that Centro Pecci acquires annually in its collections.

7:30 pm | Zuqiang Peng, Afternoon Hearsay

Afternoon Hearsay is a reflection on the nature of image-making and on how cultural, historical, and political narratives are shared and disseminated. The film reconstructs the history of 8.75 mm film, a unique format developed and produced exclusively in China between the 1960s and 1980s. Using camera-less techniques and photochemical abstraction, Peng reflects on disappearance and memory, and asks: what is a film without a camera?

By Peng Zuqiang, China, United Kingdom, Italy, 2025, 18’50’’; VO: Mandarin Chinese; ST: English.

Produced by Lo Schermo dell’Arte with Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci with the support of the VISIO Production Fund.

8:30 pm | Inside the Work of Francesco Torrini

A special edition of Inside the Work dedicated to VIVONO. Art and Affection, HIV-AIDS in Italy. 1982–1996, the exhibition that reconstructs the forgotten history of Italian artists affected by HIV-AIDS, through artworks, poems, soundscapes, videos, and personal memories.

The exhibition curator Michele Bertolino presents the work Untitled (early 1990s) by Francesco Torrini, a Florentine artist who moved between Impruneta and the sparkling world of fashion, theatre, and nightlife in the Tuscan capital. Torrini’s work, centered on the production of traces and imaginaries and on reflection around memory and remembrance, is the focus of a monographic room where works from different years recompose an intimate space, recalling the exhibition Stanze [Rooms] that the artist presented in his home in 1990.

Inside the Work is supported by Unicoop Firenze. People under 30 years old who register on the portal at this link have access to a free ticket, which includes entry to the exhibitions and the entire Centro Pecci Night program.

9:00 pm | Alanas Gurinas, A Slightly Light Tone

curated by OOH-sounds and NUB Project Space

A Slightly Light Tone is a live acoustic sound performance that uses paper as the main material for sound production. Different types of paper are placed between two wooden clamps and, with the help of weights, are put under tension until they reach their resonant state. The result is the production of different drones and sound textures generated by the paper.

Alanas Gurinas is an interdisciplinary artist who creates in the field of sonic performances and audiovisual installations. In his sonic practice he explores sound as a textural phenomena, the themes of ephemerality and relations between various hearable and unhearable objects and spaces.

    10:00 pm | Igor x Moreno, Idiot-Syncrasy

curated by Kinkaleri, as part of Body To Be 2025 with the support of Toscanaincontemporanea2025

“At first we wanted to change the world with a performance. We felt like idiots. Then we danced endlessly. We jumped. We turned to the folklore of Sardinia and the Basque Country. We sang. We jumped again. We put ourselves on the line. And now we promise we will stay together. We promise perseverance. We promise to do our best.”

Idiot-Syncrasy by Igor x Moreno is a performance created for the theatre and adapted on this occasion for the spaces of Centro Pecci. Idiot-Syncrasy seeks to recall the power of dance as an agent of change. It is a manifesto of political activism and perseverance, as well as a tender exploration of male identity and, more broadly, of human relationships. Through the mechanism of repetition, Igor x Moreno invite the audience to reflect on what we have to celebrate the bond between people and on each person’s ability to keep going.

Choreographers and performers: Igor Urzelai Hernando and Moreno Solinas; associate artist: Simon Ellis; sound design: Alberto Ruiz Soler; voice coach: Melanie Pappenheim; costumes and set design: Kasper Hansen; costume supervisor: Sophie Bellin Hansen; lighting design: Seth Rook Williams.

11:00 pm | Maria Bertel, Monophonic

curated by OOH-sounds and NUB Project Space

Maria Bertel is a Danish trombonist and composer. The amplified acoustic sound of her instrument produces results inspired by drone and noise. What is normally inaudible becomes perceptible: movement, metal, and breath become a swirling part of her compositions. Organic, ever-changing patterns emerge; the smallest sounds become brutally clear, as does the wide range of harmonics of the instrument.

In addition to her solo work, she performs and composes in groups such as the well-known four-piece noise-rock band Selvhenter and the improvised noise duo Nina Garcia & Maria Bertel. She has also collaborated with artists such as Chinese saxophonist Lao Dan and Virginia Genta of the duo Jooklo. She has presented her music at various festivals, including: Unsound Festival (Poland), Oct-Loft Festival Shenzhen (China), LUFF (Switzerland), Summer Bummer (Belgium), Sonic Protest (France), Gong Tomorrow (Denmark), Roskilde Festival (Denmark), Borealis (Norway), Meteo Festival (France).
