A museum collection helps build a sense of community. It connects the museum to its surroundings and gives people in the city and region a way to come together around something they share. Smisurata highlights the large-scale works in the Centro Pecci collection—artworks that are larger than usual and create opportunities to form new connections between the museum’s spaces, its collection, and the people who visit.
The exhibition design for Smisurata (Oversize), led by architect Ibrahim Kombarji in collaboration with the Centro Pecci team, places a strong focus on accessibility.
The show naturally connects to Eccentrica, the museum’s permanent collection display designed with Formafantasma, which reaffirmed the vital role of the collection in building ties with the local area and its communities.
With their visual and symbolic power, the works feed into a shared imagination rooted in the region’s memory—something people can gather around to reflect, watch, listen, meditate, or dance.
