The video installation, projected across three large screens, explores cultural repression and major blind spots in history, such as Italian colonialism in Africa. Inspired by archival footage shot between the late 19th century and the 1960s, La marcia dell’uomo reveals Europe’s distorted and violent gaze toward Africa.
La marcia dell’uomo (The March of Man) was first presented at the 49th Venice Art Biennale, curated by Harald Szeemann in 2001, and later featured in the solo exhibition dedicated to the two artists at Hangar Bicocca in 2004.
Its presentation at the Pecci Center creates a striking spatial experience, reshaped by the images: walking alongside the sequence of three screens, visitors journey through human history in an immersive path across three time periods - the late 19th century, the 1920s, and finally the 1960s.
