Domus Aurea. Martino Gamper, Francesco Vezzoli and ceramics by Gio Ponti

Winter 2021

curated by Cristiana Perrella

The exhibition presents a dialogue between works by Francesco Vezzoli, the furniture of the designer and artist Martino Gamper, and the ceramics produced by Gio Ponti between 1923 and 1933 during his collaboration with the Richard-Ginori factory. A confrontation, over the course of a century, between artists characterised by a common capacity for eclectic experimentation through languages and materials, the transversality of their practice, the ironic attitude, and the free and creative relationship with tradition.

On the one hand Francesco Vezzoli, who has always been interested in analysing the history of bourgeois taste and how its evolutions mark key passages of the modern era, revealing its deep psychological aspects from a new perspective, and on the other Martino Gamper, a designer known for his irreverent approach to the great classics of modernism, involve Ponti’s objects in a game of visual and conceptual references that reflect on the “domestic landscape” and the elements within it.

There will be 12 “temporary works” on display at the Centro Pecci, which shall exist only for the duration of the exhibition, their single components, referring to the three authors, merging into a single installation.
