Michele Apicella, a young mathematics professor, settles into his new home in Rome, where he meets the neighbors, a couple struggling with their daily routines, and a charming, mature man who loves life.

"Those who love each other must not lose each other".

A loner, a hygienist, and an obsessive, his free-time passion is observing the behavior of his friends, especially couples, analyzing and meticulously recording the results in a file. Meanwhile, at the new school where he goes to teach, he meets Bianca, a French teacher, with whom he attempts a romantic relationship.

Yet another transformation of Michele Apicella's character, between fantasy and Hitchcockian voyeurism, this is a free and captivating film about loneliness, the attempt and inability to be with others, and the search for happiness. It still boasts one of the most powerful endings of 1980s Italian cinema.
