Tehran, 1958. Nasser Ali is a violin virtuoso, torn to pieces by his wife, breaking his heart. Having lost his instrument, Nasser tries in vain to replace it, venturing to workshops in distant cities. Having failed in every attempt and incapable of being anything other than a musician, Nasser lets himself die in his bed before the bewildered eyes of his children and his wife he never loved. In the eight days preceding his long-sought demise, Nasser will retrace his life and the sweet secret that inspired it like a fairytale. Enchanting her forever.

"Beneath the fable, the humor, and Satrapi's fantastical neorealism, a political idea beats (and re-beats) that doesn't forget to settle scores (also) with America (guilty of the '53 coup d'état) in a mordantly contemptuous sequence on parental obtuseness and the 'fattening' culture of the States. Nasser Ali, played by Mathieu Amalric, a singular alchemist of the fantastic, thus functions as a complex and sophisticated allegory of a movement of the soul against the hateful regime persecutions perpetrated in Iranian society. A resistance that, after the escape from Persepolis, (re)seeks death and silence as the last (re)solution." (Marzia Gandolfi)
