This October, CineBrividi returns to Centro Pecci Cinema with horror classics, new discoveries and filmmaker Q&As. The programme includes Yeon Sang-ho’s Train to Busan, in which an epidemic turns a train journey into a race for survival, putting personal bonds and solidarity to the test.
Seok-wu is a financial manager separated from his wife; his young daughter, Su-an, often feels neglected by him and prefers her mother's company. A young woman bearing strange wounds—resembling animal bites—boards the train taking Su-an to her mother in Busan. She soon transforms into a zombie, and all hell breaks loose on the train.
"The film works on multiple levels: as pure entertainment; as dystopian horror depicting humanity in peril amidst a spreading undead plague; or—most rewarding of all—as the product of a sociological reflection on Korea that is anything but obvious." (Emanuele Sacchi)
