Castle in the Sky comes to the big screen at Centro Pecci Cinema on Sunday 15 November at 10:30 am, as part of the Animiamoci film series. Screened in Italian.
To escape air pirates, young Sheeta falls from a plane, but saves herself by levitating and landing gently in the arms of Pazu, a young miner who decides to take her in. As attempts to capture Sheeta and the mysterious stone she wears around her neck continue, the realization grows that Sheeta hides secrets that go far beyond what appearances suggest, tied to a mysterious city in the sky, Laputa, whose existence is rumored.
"In many ways, Castle in the Sky, better known by its original title Laputa among fans of the Japanese animation master, represents the epitome of Miyazaki's thought, as well as one of his most notable achievements. The director's key themes are present in their entirety, from self-denial and dedication to work as an essential step towards individual maturation to the fundamental pessimism about human nature, seen as inevitably at odds with the needs of nature as a whole; concluding with the obsession with flight and the freedom inherent in abstracting from the world aboard an aircraft, a privileged vantage point".
