Kiki’s Delivery Service comes to the big screen at Centro Pecci Cinema on Sunday 13 December at 10:30 am, as part of the Animiamoci film series. Screened in Italian.
The first major commercial success for Studio Ghibli, it was the first to be dubbed and distributed by Disney.
While never concealing its status as a minor work within Miyazaki’s body of work, "Kiki's Delivery Service" is highly revealing when it comes to understanding the foundational themes of the Japanese auteur's artistic vision. It is often through such minor works—prone to simplification and, at times, stereotype—that the essence of a great artist and their recurring motifs can be most accurately grasped; "Kiki" is no exception in this regard.
