Pinocchio comes to the big screen at Centro Pecci Cinema on Sunday 11 October at 10:30 am, as part of the Animiamoci film series. Screened in Italian.
In 1940, Walt Disney decided to make Pinocchio a mass-market product to be distributed worldwide.
All the elements of local culture and folklore present in Collodi's novel were eliminated. Thus was born a global Pinocchio, without the farmer's farmyard and the Tuscan landscape. Pinocchio resembles Mickey Mouse dressed as a Tyrolean, the Fairy Godmother resembles a Hollywood star, and Geppetto becomes simply a skilled and efficient father. From a technical standpoint, it is one of the most complex animated films ever made by Walt Disney, costing enormous sums (a thousand dollars per second). Initially, it was not very successful, and only became a success in re-releases. The film was one of the causes of Disney's severe crisis during the 1940s.
Due to its perfect balance between form and content, it is still considered one of the most important Disney classics, a key moment in the history of animation on the big screen.
