A dangerous serial killer stalks the small American town of Woodsboro, wearing a "Phantom of the Opera"-style mask. As Sidney—whose mother was murdered a year earlier—moves in with her friend Tatum, horror movie buffs Billy, Stu, and Randy find yet another reason to host thrill-filled movie nights. But before long, reality and fiction begin to blur.
Wes Craven’s Scream closes the Halloween marathon on 31 October.
On Saturday 31 October, CineBrividi celebrates Halloween with a film marathon at Centro Pecci Cinema, from the afternoon until late into the night. The programme begins at 4:30 pm with the endless highway of It Ends, followed at 6:30 pm by the music and irreverence of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. At 9:00 pm, Na Hong-jin’s Hope receives its Italian premiere, while at 11:55 pm, Wes Craven’s Scream rounds off the night by playing with the rules of horror cinema. All films are screened in their original language with Italian subtitles.
"Craven’s visual flair and mastery of imagery (his use of the Steadicam is unparalleled) propel the film into a remarkable crescendo of suspense, bordering on a classic whodunit thriller. In the final half-hour—during a sort of postmodern slumber party where teens re-watch Halloween on VHS, whipped into a frenzy by death, sex, and cinema in a delirious, destructive role-playing game—Scream reaches the peak of its visionary potential. It becomes a whirlwind of bloody plot twists, sneak attacks, stakeouts, creaking sounds, screams, and sudden reversals. The horror becomes saturated; fear manifests as an ectoplasm of the psyche and the unconscious; the serial killer is not an external boogeyman, but 'something' within us." (Fabio Bo)
