Little Chihiro can't bear the thought of moving and losing her friends, but she can't do anything about it. Just as the family is on their way to their new home, her father turns onto a dirt road that ends in a mysterious tunnel. Despite Chihiro's protests, the parents decide to cross it, arriving at a seemingly abandoned amusement park.
"In a period of time as indeterminate as the rules of the spirit world, Chihiro experiences an internal and external journey that is almost a trailer, a condensed version, of the life destined to await her. Fraught with difficulties and sorrows (the loss of loved ones), hypocrisy and pettiness (the frogs in Yu-baba's service), transformations and maturations (the Faceless One): love, work, and a sense of responsibility follow one another in the form of tests, to which Chihiro is more or less consciously subjected before gaining new wisdom. Like Dorothy returning from Oz, Chihiro will never forget her enchanted journey or the lessons it holds, learning from them to face an even more uncertain and unknown one.
