Migrations are increasingly present in the news, and there is a widespread perception, fueled by certain information media, that they constitute a siege against which we have to defend ourselves with walls and armies. But who are these migrants? A drama and a social menace to be afraid of? An economic opportunity? An effect of globalization and of the opening up of European borders, borders which now however seem to be closing again and threatening the whole Schengen convention itself? And what are the differences between the old and the new migrations?
