Mendelssohn and Schumann
Lecture by Claudio Proietti
Mendelssohn and Schumann, two of the most important first-generation Romantic composers, found themselves having to compete against the ghost of Beethoven more directly and in some ways more dramatically than other colleagues. The musician and musicologist Claudio Proietti presents their responses to this challenge, which differed both stylistically and thematically in the two composers.
